Initial work has begun on the first construction phase of Dublin Airport North Runway. The airport confirmed the €320 million project almost a year ago and the runway is expected to be operational by 2020.
Dublin Airport received planning permission in 2007, however, a number of pre-commencement conditions relating to the project were discharged in December 2016, allowing for the works to start.
This initial phase of the project will run for about eight months and will support up to 100 construction jobs. The works will include temporary traffic management measures such as lane closures, short-term diversions and one-way traffic during the construction period.
Dublin Airport has prepared an Environmental Protection Plan which sets out measures to minimise disruption to local communities from traffic, noise, dust and other construction-related issues.
The airport has taken other steps, including voluntary purchase of some homes closest to the new runway and providing noise insulation to others.
