Bristol Airport is enhancing the arrivals experience for travellers with a £2.3 million upgrade of the immigration hall. When complete in April, it will increase the number of passport control points from the current 10 to 17. This will include 10 of the latest ePassport gates.
As well as introducing new equipment, the work is enlarging the immigration hall, which is being redesigned to create a more welcoming environment and streamline the border process for passengers.
“These new facilities will be in place for passengers from April onwards, in time for the busy summer holiday season and will make a big difference to the airport experience,” says Alison Roberts, Head of Terminal and Customer Operations, Bristol Airport. “In the meantime, we will be working closely with Border Force to keep any inconvenience to passengers during the improvement works to a minimum.”
To enable the new technology to be installed, existing equipment has to be removed first. As a result, ePassport gates will be unavailable to passengers for a period of three months until installation is complete. All passengers on international flights will be subject to conventional passport checks during this time.
